Landmark Country Calves Sales Results

Landmark Hamilton Weaner Steer Sales

On Tuesday 8th January Landmark yarded an exceptional line-up of 1300 quality Angus Weaner Steer’s which have enjoyed the benefits of a good season at its annual Angus Weaner Steer Sale.

Most calves presented were yard weaned on soft flooring, with vendors leading the way in industry best practice ensuring stock are best prepared for paddock backgrounding or feedlot entry.

Landmark Hamilton Agent Darren Dawson said ‘vendors were pleased with the results considering the dry conditions currently facing many operators in the area’.

Landmark client Fiveways who presented 31 head of EU Angus weighing 382kg made 188c/kg sold to T&R were the pick of the yarding presented on Tuesday’s sale.

There was strong local support from backgrounders in southern markets including Landmark Leongatha, Bannockburn and Warrnambool as well as representation from across the border in South Australia. Strong buying support was also shown from feedloters including T&R and Teys who were targeting EU accredited cattle on offer at both the Angus and Poll Hereford Weaner Steer sales.

It’s worth noting Northern NSW and Qld buyers were largely absent due to tight seasonal conditions currently being experienced leaving them unable to operate. Market prices were comparable to current feedlot prices with an average price of 175-180c/kg achieved in the Angus Weaner sale on Tuesday and average of 175-185c/kg at the Poll Hereford Sale on the Thursday with some exceptional lines making above that.

Hereford and European-cross steers continued to attract strong demand on the fourth day of sales at Hamilton last week with the top sell at Thursday’s Poll Hereford Weaner sale making 194c/kg at an average weight of 298kg for Charolaise Steers.

Landmark Casterton Weaner Steer Sale

An excellent line-up of stock were presented at Landmark Casterton’s Weaner Steer Sale on Wednesday 9th January. Landmark yarded over 1800 Weaner Steers and attendees were quick to note calves had exceeded previous years quality considering the tough finish to the season.

Landmark Casterton Agent Greg Bright said ‘we were very pleased with how they lined up and the Landmark buying support was great, most lines averaged 175 -185c/kg with the odd exception making above that’.

Landmark client Noss Pastoral topped the sale with an outstandinglot of 35 Angus steers averaging 353kg that made 191c/kg.

While Dunrobin Homestead sold 57 head of quality Angus and Angus X Steers, average weight 334kg that made 186c/kg.

Strong buying support from the Gippsland, Pakenham and Warragul regions in Victoria was present while South Australian operators were also strongly represented. There were also a number of feedloters present while local backgrounders also took the opportunity to purchase good lines of quality calves on offer. The general consensus from buyers was that price had firmed 2-3c dearer on the previous days sale at Hamilton.
