Landmark Ballarat client achieves new national record for lambs

In what is a new national record set at the Ballarat saleyards last Tuesday, second cross lambs made a top price of $216 per head.

The new record toppled the one set the week prior at Ballarat at $210 per head.

Landmark client B&S Maher of Newlyn, Victoria located approximately 20 kilometres north of Ballarat in the rich potato-growing district, sold 91 heavy lambs at $216 to Wagstaff Cranbourne.

Ballarat Livestock Manager and Auctioneer, Xavier Shanahan said that the lambs were purchased from Bendigo in October last year and had been on lucerne at Newlyn for approximately three months.

Mr Shanahan said the lambs were heavier and of top quality, estimated at 35kg dressed weight.

“It’s a very buoyant time for the industry and this sale was a great result for the breeders and good for the restockers,” Mr Shanahan said.
