Action-a-plenty at the 2010 Landmark Paradise Lagoons Performance Horse Sale

What is quickly becoming a highlight on the annual sales calendar, the second Landmark Paradise Lagoons Performance Horse Sale, did not disappoint with an offering of 71 performance horses achieving a gross sale figure of $570,500.

Held on Wednesday July 21, a large buyer gallery of over 700 people were in attendance at Paradise Lagoons to view the line up of quality registered Australian stock and quarter horses. Some 54 horses sold, for an average price of $10,500.

The top price stallion on the day was “Pechey Stud Tradition” purchased for $40,000 by the Saunders family from Walgett, New South Wales from vendor Barry Southern, St George, Queensland.

Peter Ryan from Moura in Queensland sold the top price mare “Daddy Who” for $30,000 to Georgina Pastoral Company, Queensland.

The top selling gelding, “Ocean Bob Acre”, was sold for $14,000 by Peter Black and Leanne Comiskey from Alpha, central Queensland. The purchaser was SA & AJ McLutcheon from Trangie in New South Wales.

The action continued with the renowned Paradise Lagoons Campdraft held on Thursday July 22 and Friday July 23. The feature drawcard was the automatic eligibility for all horses purchased in the 2009 Landmark Paradise Lagoons Performance Horse Sale invited back to compete in a restricted draft competition.

Taking out first place and $8,000 in prize money was Rick Hopkins riding “Playing Poco”. Runner up was Lisa Lliffe aboard “Dually Tucker” who took home $4,000. Third placing was a three way tie between Tom Acton on “Knights Gunman”, Sean Bassington riding “Stockhaven Image” and Rob Addinsall aboard “Docs Spinatra” each picking up $2,000.

For next year’s event, a new restricted sale horse campdraft will be added to the 2011 Paradise Lagoons Campdraft program, which will see horses sold in this year’s sale invited back to compete for an exclusive $20,000 draft, along with the winning horse’s vendor to also pick up a bonus of $5,000.

Landmark’s Colby Ede and Mark Barton were both very happy with the turnout and the success of the sale and campdraft.

“Our aim is to make this a permanent fixture on the Landmark calendar, “ Mr Ede said.

“Given the support we’ve received so far, with people attending from as far away as Victoria in the south, New South Wales and throughout Queensland, I’m confident we’re well on the way to achieving this.”
