Major plantation investment opportunity

Agribusiness real estate specialist, Landmark, has been appointed selling agents for almost 11,000 hectares of land developed for blue gum forestry in south-west Victoria and the south-east of South Australia.

The holding, spread across some 30 properties, is owned by Plantation Land Limited (PLL), with all fully leased to Australian Bluegum Plantations (ABP), itself owned by Global Forest Partners L.P of New Hampshire, USA. Landmark’s appointment comes on the back of successful sale of other PLL property last year.

Landmark real estate’s Philip Le Plastrier said the landholdings and associated lease with a multinational tenant represented a tremendous opportunity.

“This offering is a portfolio of freehold title to 30 properties across what is known as the ‘Green Triangle’ region, thanks to its reliability of rainfall and good soils,” Mr Le Plastrier said.

“When you add in ABP’s lease of the bluegum plantations, some of which were planted as far back as 2000, the opportunity for an investor cries out to be explored.

“The holdings consist of 3,556 hectares in south-west Victoria and 6,985 hectares in the south-east of South Australia, with the portfolio to be sold as a whole, so we are very interested in talking to prospective purchasers,” Mr le Plastrier said.

Landmark will be marketing the portfolio over almost 6 weeks, with tenders to close at 3pm on 25 June, 2010.
