Landmark north-east Victoria lamb sale via AuctionsPlus

Landmark last week held its annual north-east Victoria lamb sale via the AuctionsPlus online selling system – the perfect way to conduct a sale when weather conditions mean that mustering and transporting stock, and even physically getting to a traditional sale would be difficult.

Landmark agent David Welsh said the sale of some 12,500 lambs was a great success, with 60 registered buyers competing for lambs from 27 vendors across the north-east, and all without a lamb leaving home.

“Given the weather we’ve had with localised flooding, sodden paddocks and some pretty tough conditions, the online system through AuctionsPlus meant no transport to yards, no stress on the animals or anyone else, minimal costs and maximum convenience,” Mr Welsh said.

“Quite apart from the logistical benefits, buyers know exactly what they're getting, with information such as breeding history, drench and vaccination dates, health and condition all provided online prior to the sale by the selling agent.

“We sold 3000 shorn store crossbred lambs and 9500 woolly store crossbred lambs.

“Top price was $124.50 for 6-month-old second cross lambs weighing 41.5 kilograms, which was a great result.

“Buying strength largely came from restockers from Ballarat, Wagga and Bendigo, with some from Leongatha, along with two processors and four local buyers.

“There were a lot of repeat buyers from previous year and I’m not surprised, given the quality of the stock that was offered.

“All in all a great success, confirming AuctionsPlus is a great way to sell and purchase livestock,” Mr Welsh said.
