Charity fleeces raise cash for Camp Quality

Elite fleeces donated from the Australian Sheep and Wool show fleece competition raised $14,000 for Camp Quality on 17 August 2011.

The 11th annual Australian Fleece Competition was held in Bendigo 15 – 17 July 2011 where 140 of the 180 exhibitors donated one or more fleeces to the charity, which supports children up to 18 years and their families living with cancer.

Landmark’s Athol Frederick, who organises the competition, was thrilled with the result. “This is a great result. Our previous best was $10,000, so that’s a huge rise,” he said.

Athol said the big difference this year was the wool market had improved by 30-40%. “Most of the lots sold for more than 50cents above valuation,” he said.

Over the past 10 years, the fundraising effort between Landmark, Australian Wool Testing Authority, wool growers and wool exhibitors, had raised more than $58,000.

This is a fantastic industry effort for all facets of the wool supply chain,” Athol said.
