Ballarat’s 36th Annual Premier Weaner Sale

Ballarat’s 36th Annual Premier Weaner sale was held on Friday 27th February, where an increased yarding of 3953 head (3616 head in 2008) were sold to an average of $522 grossing over $2m. The renowned Landmark sale is recognised to be one of the largest stand alone agency cattle sales in Southern Australia.

Considering the challenging conditions being experienced at present in the industry, the overall quality of the yarding was excellent despite the shorter spring and extreme heat in Victoria leading up to the sale.

Buying strength came mainly from the feedlotters with Charlton feedlot purchasing 850 cattle, also with large numbers going to the Gippsland region in particular Leongatha and NSW Landmark branches at Mudgee, Dubbo and Wagga.

Steers: Angus weaners made up to $690, Black baldy to $650 and Hereford to $580. Grown Steers were up to $885.
Heifers: Grown heifers made up to $690 and heifer weaners to $570.

Best presented pen of steer weaners was awarded to VA&CP Rieniets of Blampied, Vic.

Recognising an outstanding effort from Ballarat Landmark livestock staff, and staff from other neighbouring branches including Ararat, Bannockburn, Hamilton, Bendigo, Horsham and Ouyen to present this sale.
