An exciting first for Queensland: Longreach student stock horses to be sold via AuctionsPlus

On Thursday 30 November*, for the first time in Queensland (and only the second time in Australia) horses will be offered for sale on AuctionsPlus.

As in past years, the Longreach Pastoral Campus has been invited to sell horses prepared by students. This year, the nine ridden stock horses will be offered on AuctionsPlus as part of the renowned Swan Hill on property Annual Santa Bull Sale.

Commencing at 12 noon (QLD) and 1pm (NSW) with 63 Santa Gertrudis, 28 Charolais X Santa and 3 Red Angus X Santa Bulls, the 42nd Annual Bull Sale is set to attract plenty of national attention and build on the success of previous sales.

“Then, by special invitation, the Longreach stock horses will be offered,” said Colin Campbell, Landmark’s Livestock AuctionsPlus Co-ordinator Qld/NT. “With the entire sale interfaced on AuctionsPlus, buyers from right around the country will have the opportunity to purchase.”

The horses were broken in, spelled for six months and then prepared by Certificate III in Horse Breeding students under the guidance of John Arnold, Advanced Skill and Senior Horsemanship Instructor for the Longreach Pastoral Campus.

Over the past five months, as part of their curriculum the students have trained, groomed, shod and prepared these horses for sale, which are by well-performed stallions owned and standing at the Longreach Campus.

All details (including breeding, photos and working videos of each horse) are available on www.auctionplus.com.au.

According to Colin, AuctionsPlus is a fast-growing Online Sales by Description marketing option.

“We’re thrilled to enable this ‘first’ on AuctionsPlus, We have great expectations for excellent results for both the bulls and the horses.”

“The Online format promises producers maximum exposure for their stock which guarantees maximum competition and they have the comfort of knowing their stock returns before they leave the property.”

“Buyers have greater access from their home-base. Online catalogues providing comprehensive pre-auction background, photos and data on all lots, meaning buyers can make very well-informed assessments.”

The Russell family, hosts of the Swan Hill Santa Bull sale since 1969, report that this year’s bulls have benefited from one of their best-ever seasons.

With John Arnold reporting excellent feedback from the market and a high level of interest in the horses from as far away as Tasmania, the 42nd Annual Bull Sale is shaping up as a premium event.
