$1.1 million at Landmark Classic Campdraft Sale

The inaugural Landmark Classic Campdraft Sale at Tamworth on 24 May attracted over 1500 people, who saw 105 performance horses change hands to gross over $1.1 million.

The sale was a major success that broke new ground in the horse industry, which is why it was so popular, according to Landmark NSW state livestock manager Mark Barton.

“This was the first campdraft-focused sale to be conducted in the country that combined the two main performance horse stud books,” Mr Barton said.

“We saw the cream of the crop of young ridden horses from both the Australian Stock Horse and the Australian Quarter Horse stud books to go under the hammer on one day, in the interests of the sport of campdrafting.

“It was also the first horse sale interfaced with the AuctionsPlus system. We had 339 buyers registered at the sale complex and over 30 more operating on AuctionsPlus, which meant we had people from all Australian states and territories bidding on these horses.

“The third new feature about this sale was that it is linked to the Landmark Classic Campdraft in 2009 – any horse bought at the sale that is still five years and under by February 2009 is automatically eligibile to enter this major campdrafting event, which will have $50,000 in prize money available,” Mr Barton said.
